Idol of Kaleeyamardhana Krishna with four arms

Jagadguru Sri Madhwacharya, who preached Tatvavada also installed Krishna idol in Udupi and appointed 8 saints to worship Sri Krishna on Co-operation basis (Paryaya). These saints continued their linage & became the moola purusha of 8 different mutts called Ashta mutts.

Sri Madhwacharya initiated Sri Narasimha Theertha to sanyasa to worship Sri Krishna & gave Kaleeyamardhana Krishna with four arms. Sri Narasimha Theertha continued his lineage & it is known as Adamaru mutt. Sri Narasimha Theertha is the first pontiff / moola purusha of this mutt.

Adamaru Mutt is located in the South West corner of the car Street. The main branch of this Mutt is in the village known as Adamaru.

01. Sri Narasimha Theertha

Sri Narasimha Theertha is the first pontiff of Adamaru mutt who was given Ashrama by Sri Madhwacharya himself. In Sumadhwa Vijaya, his name is mentioned as ‘Narasimha padadhara:’ He ruled the Peeta for many years and did pilgrimage tour. He is famous for his tapas Shakti. He gave Ashrama to Sri Kamalekshana Theertha and once again went to north India for pilgrimage tour.

Some believe that he is same as Narahari Theertha (Successor of Padmanabha Theertha who brought idols of moola Seeta Rama from gajapati kingdom), but there is a strong traditional & evidences which says they are different persons who were Sri Madhwacharya’s Shishya.

After handing over Peeta to Sri Kamalekshana Theertha, it is said that he entered Vrundavana at Bhagirathi but it needs to be confirmed after thorough research.

In view of his master over shastra, king Ramaraya donated golden pallakki and other precious ornaments to him.

He was an incredible scholar and was also expert in pourohitya and Ayurveda. His sishyas include Viswamanya Theertha (Pejawar mutt), Raghumanya Theertha (Palimar mutt), Vidyasamudra Theertha (Kaniyoor mutt), and Sugnanendra Theertha (Puttige mutt) which shows his knowledge. He gave sanyasa Ashrama to Vidyamanya Theertha of Bhandarkere mutt who later became head of Palimar mutt also. He was instrumental in establishing Sanskrit college in Udupi. He developed the mutt to become financially strong. He submitted one chariot to lord Narasimha in Ghatikachala.

Sri Vibudhesha Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Raghumanya Theertha of Palimar mutt. He had born in the year 1928 on Margashira Bahula Truteeya. He took sanyasa in the year 1945 on Jeshta Bahula Truteeya. He was expert in Nyaya, meemamsa, Tarka, Vedanta. He was also good in Upanishads and Geetha. He was proficient in English also. He built school in Padubidre, Adamaru and also built Veda patashala in Manipura. Under his leadership more than 15 educational institutions came into existence. He had role in building Poornaprajna College in Udupi.

32 Sri Viswapriya Theertha (present pontiff)

Sri Viswapriya Theertha is the 32^nd saint after Madhwacharya in the guru parampare of Adamaru mutt.
