Sri Madhava Theertharu

Sri Madhava Theertha is one of the disciples of Sri Madhwacharya & took sanyasa directly from him. Subsequently he became the head of Sri Madhwacharya Samsthana after Sri Padmanabha thirtharu & Sri Narahari Thirtharu. Below is his brief introduction.

Not much of information is available about Sri Govinda Shastri’s purvashrama, but it is said that he was a profound vedic scholar of that time & hails from Krishna Yajurveda shake. He got immensely attracted to Sri Madwacharya’s knowledge, personality, siddhantha & became his disciple. He learned Tattva siddhantha directly from Sri Madhwacharya & took sanyasa from him. Later joined his hands to spread tattvavada with other Srimadachayra dicisiples i.e Sri Padhmanabha theertha, Sri Narahari Theertha, Sri Trivikrama panditacharya etc.

Sri Madhwacharya appointed Sri Padmanabha theertha as his successor / peetadhipati & handed over hamsa peetha responsibility & Samsthana. Sri Padmanabha theertha handed over the peetha to Sri Narahari Theertha and entered vrundavana at Anegondi. Sri Narahari Theertha handed over the peetha to Sri Madhavatheertha & made him as the head of the hamsa peetha before he enters vrundavana at hampi.

Sri Madhava theertha continued the task for spreading tattvasiddhantha & faced many challenges. He served 17 years as peethadipathi, He initiated sanyasa to Sri Madhuhari Theertha, gave Madhwacharya kararchita Veera Rama idol & saligramas etc., and started a new lineage that is known as Sri Madhavathirtha mutt & has headquarters at Majjige halli / Tambi halli near kolar district in Karnataka. Sri Madhavatheertha handed over the hamsa peetha to Sri Akshobya theertha, another direct disciple of Sri Madhwacharya and entered vrundavana at Kampli on the banks of river Tungabhadra.

Place of Vrundavana:

There are different views on the place of Sri Madhavatheertha’s vrundavana.

1. “Satkata” an authentic book of Sri Uttaradhimutt states that Sri Madhavatheertha entered vrundavana at kampli on the banks of Tungabhadra river & later 2^nd vrundavana was constructed at Mannur.
2. “ Madhwamathagalu” states that the vrundavana is on Bhima river banks
3. Pranesh dasaru indicates the place of his vrundavana as “Dhaaradharadi” means on Thungabhadra river banks

Taking into consideration the old documents and beliefs it can be concluded that Sri Madhava theertha entered vrundavana on the banks of Thungabhadra at Kampli. There is also a second vrundavana at mannur which was constructed on later dates.

Works & Contemporaries: He is said to have written Rigveda vyakyana Yejurveda vyakyana and Samaveda vyakyana, unfortunately those compositions are not available for reference today.

ಇವರ ಪೂರ್ವಾಶ್ರಮದ ಹೆಸರು ಗೋವಿಂದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಗಳು. ಇವರು ಮೂಲತ ಯಾವ ಊರಿನವರೆಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲ. ಶ್ರೀ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ನಾಲಕ್ಕು ಶಿಷ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ೩ನೆಯವ್ಯವರು. ಇವರು ಶ್ರೀ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಂದ

ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸ್ತರಾಗಿ ಶ್ರೀ ನರಹರಿತೀರ್ಥರಿಂದ ಪಟ್ಟಾಭಿಷಿಕ್ತರಾಗಿ ೧೭ ವರ್ಷಗಳು ವೇದಾಂತ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯವನ್ನಾಳಿದರು. ಇವರು ಋಗ್ವೇದ ಯಜುರ್ವೇದ ಹಾಗು ಸಾಮವೇದಕ್ಕೆ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ  ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಉಲ್ಲೆಖವಿದ್ದರೂ ಇವರ ಯಾವುದೇ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು ದೊರಕಿಲ್ಲ.

ಇವರು ಶ್ರೀ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಂದ ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸ್ತರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಅಕ್ಷೋಭ್ಯತೀರ್ಥರಿಗೆ ವೇದಾಂತ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳ್ಳರಿಸಿ ಹರಿಪದವನೈದಿದರು. ಇವರ ಮೂಲ ಬೃಂದಾವನ ಸ್ಥಳ ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾತೀರವೆಂದು ಮುಂದೆ ಇವರ ೨ನೇ ವೃಂದಾವನ ಮಣ್ಣೂರು ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು “ಸತ್ಕಥಾ” ಎಂಬ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. “ಮಾಧ್ವ ಮಠಗಳು” ಎಂಬ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಭೀಮಾತೀರದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇವರ ಬೃಂದಾವನವಿತ್ತೆಂದು ಮುಂದೆ ಮಣ್ಣೂರು ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. “ಗುರುಚರ್ಯ” ಎಂಬ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರ ಬೃಂದಾವನ ಸ್ಥಳದ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖವಿಲ್ಲ.  ಇನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಾಣೇಶದಾಸರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ” ಧರಾಧರಜ ತೀರದಿ” ಎಂದು, ಅಂದರೇ ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದ್ದರೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಶತಮಾನಗಳಷ್ಟು ಹಳೆಯದಾದ ಸತ್ಕಥಾ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಾಣೇಶದಾಸರ ಕೃತಿಯಂತೆ “ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ ತೀರದ ಸ್ಥಳವೆ ಇವರ ಮೂಲ ಬೃಂದಾವನ ಸ್ಥಳಯೆಂದು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಯಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ.

ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರ ಬೃಂದಾವನ ದೊರಕಿದೆಯಂದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಪೂಜೆ, ಪುನಸ್ಕಾರ, ಆರಾಧನೆಗಳು ಜರಗುತ್ತಿವೆ.

ಇವರು ಮಧುಹರಿ ತೀರ್ಥರಿಗೆ ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ಮಠವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದ್ದರೆ.  ಇದೇ ಈಗಿನ ತಂಬಿಹಳ್ಳಿ/ಮಜ್ಜಿಗೆಹಳ್ಳಿ ಮಾಧವತೀರ್ಥರ ಮಠ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಕರಾರ್ಚಿತ ವೀರರಾಮ , ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾಧವ ತೀರ್ಥರು ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ದಿಗ್ವಿಜಯ ರಾಮದೇವರು ,ಹುತ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊರೆತ  ಯೋಗಾನಾರಸಿಂಹ ದೇವರು, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿನಾರಸಿಂಹ ದೇವರು, ವೇದವ್ಯಾಸ ದೇವರು ಹಾಗು ವಿಶೇಷ ಸಾಲಿಗ್ರಾಮಗಳು ಇವೆ .
