Tambihalli Mutt (Sri )

Jagadguru Sri Madhwacharya, who preached Tatvavada, had many disciples who were initiated sanyasa by him. He also installed Krishna idol in Udupi and appointed 8 saints to worship Sri Krishna on Co-operation basis (Paryaya). These saints continued their linage & became the moola purusha of 8 different mutts called Ashta mutts.

Apart from Ashta mutts Sri Madhwacharya initiated Sri Padmanabha Theertha, Sri Narahari Theertha, Sri Madhava Theertha and Sri Akshobhya Theertha to sanyasa and appointed them as his successors & peetadhipathi to Paramahamsa peeta parampare which he inherited from his guru & to preach dwaitha philosophy all across world. He ordered them to succeed the peeta one after the other & continue the parampare. After handing over Peeta to Sri Padmanabha Theertha, Sri Madhwacharya went to Badari and disappeared there. Sri Padmanabha Theertha continued to preach Tatvavada after becoming the head of the parampare (Refer Sri Padmanabha theertha article). Sri Padmanabha Theertha handed over Peeta to Sri Narahari Theertha and entered Vrundavana at Anegondi near Hampi, now called Navavrindavana.

Sri Narahari Theertha continued the parampare as head of institute (Refer Sri Narahari theertha article). As instructed by Sri Madhwacharya, Sri Narahari Theertha handed over Peeta to Sri Madhava Theertha and entered Vrundavana at chakra theertha near Hampi.

Sri Madhava Theertha continued to preach Tatvavada after becoming the head of the Parampare (Refer Sri Madhava theertha article). He handed over the peeta to Sri Akshobhya theertha as the head of the moola parampare. Similar to his predecessors to spread the dwaitha philosophy to more places Sri Madhava theertha also initiated Sri Madhuhari Theertha into sanyasa and gave him Sri Veera Rama idol which was worshipped by acharya madhwa. Sri Madhuhari theertha continued that linage which later recognized as Sri Madhava Theertha mutt or Tambihalli mutt or Majjigehalli mutt. Sri Madhuhari Theertha is the first pontiff / moola purusha of this mutt.

Tambihalli mutt has its headquarter in Tambihalli in present Kolar district in Karnataka, which was once rich in heritage once upon a time.

Recently when some Madhwas around the area of his Vrundavana wanted to do some Seva like cleaning that place etc., a saint suddenly appeared there and distributed food to them. Such is the anugraha of the saint for everyone who visit him. He gave madhwa deekshe to a section of saurashtra Brahmins. His Vrundavana was left unnoticed for long time. He still lives there in adrushya roopa. He gave Ashrama to Sri Keshava Madhava Theertha, he entered Vrundavana at Shaigananganallur.

Sri Veera Madhava Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Srinivasa Madhava Theertha and ruled Peeta for about 29 years. Sri Veera Madhava Theertha’s Poorvashrama name was Sri Bheemacharya and was Head master of a school. He was a good debater, music lover, an actor and a Harikatha exponent. By just observing a person he was able to tell his attitude, Character and his horoscope without referring to any text or Shastra.   Such was his knowledge.

One day the Cook brought milk mixed with poison for offering to Sri Veera Rama idol. By observing him, the cook started shivering and confessed everything. He reprimanded the cook by saying that he should be pardoned by Sri Rama only and none else, as the cook agreed to undertake this treachery for the sake of money listening to the directions of the jealous people. He said that money would not fetch happiness. One should gain bhakti, jnaana and, vairagya. He performed dhyaana to Sri Rama in order that the cook could get “Sadbudhi”. He composed many Kannada songs with ankita Sri Veera Rama.  He performed Samsthana Pooja for 29 years and in his 80th year  gave ashram to Sri Krishna Murthy Achar ( He was working in the Police  department. He was a great devotee of Hanuma), He was performing Honey Abhisheka to Tambihalli Mukhyaprana (installed by Sri Vyasarajaru) and offer prayer to him in full faith, without any desire) named him as Sri Sathya Madhava Theertha and entered Vrundavana at Tambihalli.

He had darshan of lord Rama and in one incident lord Rama and hanuman protected him from some miscreants and disappeared from everyone’s very sight. He was a great hanuman upasaka.

After initiating Ashrama to Sri Vijaya Madhava Theertha, he entered Vrundavana at Tambihalli.
